2015 Principal's Message
Seeing Possibilities, Creating Experiences
The theme for 2015,
Seeing Possibilities,Creating Experiences
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19, NIV
2015 holds the promise of many new beginnings for all at Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School. The nation celebrates its jubilee and the Kuo Chuan Schools enter their tenth decade. What do we hope to see God do in our midst in this very special year and in the decade ahead?
The verse from Isaiah 43:19 challenges us to be alert to all that God wants to do in our midst in 2015. It is a call to ‘see’ what God is doing, to dream new dreams and to believe that God is able to ‘make a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland’ to fulfil the purpose for which Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School was established. It is a call to staff and students to be open to new opportunities for learning and growth; a challenge to break away from some of the old, the tried and tested ways, and venture into the new pathways that God is creating for us so that every child finds joy in learning and in growing to be all that he can be, an asset to his community.
The KCPSS leadership team and staff are committed to embracing these new possibilities in and for every KCPian in the year ahead. We intend to co-create, with our students, learning experiences for high engagement in learning and enjoyment of learning for every child. With the school’s focus on growing every KCPian to be a servant leader and community-contributor, we will build on our Learning for Life Programme in Community and Youth Leadership to enable every child to realise his potential for meaningful citizenship in society. Through the core curriculum and our Applied Learning Programme in Media Literacy, there will be an increased emphasis on equipping students with life-ready competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, innovation, cross-cultural understanding and resilience.
As a nation, we celebrate our Pioneers, the men and women for whom no price was too high to see our nation succeed; men & women who dreamed of a first world nation with every modern amenity when there were none. They dared to dream, and worked hard to make their dreams a reality. As a school, we commit to continue to build on the legacy of our founding fathers who envisioned a place where young minds will be nurtured and character moulded to raise generations who will be ‘Aflame for Truth’ in our community. May we, as the pioneers of this generation, dream new dreams and embrace a ‘do-whatever-it-takes’ mind-set to realise these dreams and keep the Kuo Chuan flame ablaze for those who will come behind us.
My staff and I look forward to the continued support of our parents, alumni and key partners in the exciting journey God has in store for us in the year 2015. We invite you to dream with us and work with us to enter new frontiers that will equip our students to contribute effectively in an ever-evolving world. Yes, the first step into our tenth decade will indeed see God ‘doing a new thing …. making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland’.
