Journeying Together ... Forging New Pathways

The theme for 2016
Journeying Together…..Forging New Pathways

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland………..to give drink to my people, my chosen,….

Isaiah 43:19-20 NIV

“If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.”

African Proverb

As Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School enters 2016, we re-affirm our dream to go far, seeing God has great things in store for us because He has chosen to bless us, and because we have you, our readers, to take this journey together with us!

The KCPSS leadership team and staff are committed to strengthening collaborative relationships within the school, to dream bigger dreams and to reach for the impossible in the year ahead. Together with our students, we will work towards a more vibrant school environment, higher engagement in classrooms through innovative pedagogical approaches and a myriad of service opportunities so every child can exercise a generosity of his gifts and talents to make a difference for someone in the community and grow as a servant leader.

2015 saw many new beginnings for us at KCPSS. Teachers created additional platforms for informal interaction with students and were blessed with the personal growth opportunities for themselves through these experiences. The Kuo Chuan Schools Alumni increased involvement in the school through their participation at key school events, sponsorship of gifts and awards for graduating students and service as Volunteer Adult Leaders with the various Uniform Groups. The Parents’ Support Group rallied their members as they worked alongside students to advocate and raise funds for various VWOs during the annual Youth Day Carnival, role-modelling the servant leader attributes we seek to inculcate in students. Parents were also out in full force to support the school open house which was done for the first time in 2015. As my staff and I look back on these rich contributions, we can only thank God for raising this great team to journey with us. Together with all of you and the strong support of the School Management Committee, KCPSS is poised to go far- to forge new pathways and create new realities for our students in 2016.

The school will continue to leverage its culture of Care, Collaboration & Excellence to help every KCPian be fully engaged in school, enjoy his learning and realise his potential. The strong culture of care at KCPSS has assured KCPians that every one of them belongs here and is an important member of the KCPSS community. Strong teacher-student relationships have nurtured a deep sense of belonging and encouraged high student engagement in school activities. In the year ahead, we hope to take this further and infuse in students a desire for deep mastery in learning in both the academic and social domains and so develop their confidence to cope with the demands of the world beyond school. Opportunities for greater personal responsibility and decision-making will also be inculcated so students grow to be leaders of self and choose to live purposefully every day. Students will be supported and encouraged to strive for high standards in all areas of work.  We look to the partnership of parents and stakeholders to make this a reality for every KCPian.

It has been said,” You can do a lot by yourself but you can do the impossible with a great team.” With you on our team, my staff and I are confident we will see the impossible start taking shape in the year ahead!
